Comments
Under a license agreement with Shell Oil International Ltd. SOFEC provided a CALM buoy for import service to the Refidomsa refinery in the Dominican Republic. This type of CALM buoy is generally known as a “Shell Bearing Buoy” in that the turntable with all its product piping, fluid swivels, mooring and hoisting equipment is supported entirely by a 3.4m three-race roller bearing. There are no outboard turntable rollers or “bogie” wheels. The SOFEC design provided a complete and fully sealed housing with lubrication around the main bearing. The fluid swivel is fully isolated from mooring loads on the turntable.
